Hello? Hello? Is anyone out there?

Ah, many people think that phones are obsolete. In a way so do I, but playing with a cool Voice over IP server makes things seem a lot different. Today for example, I conducted a VoIP phone call with Johny. The setup was fairly simple:

My laptop ↔ My Desktop/Asterisk server ↔ internet ↔ Johny’s Asterisk server ↔ Johny’s desktop

Simple eh? Well it was a fun call, and Johny realized just how cool Asterisk can be. Additionally, today I have been contacted by a certain individual who calls himself lutchann_. He told me that he has a FXO/FXS (I’m kind of confused which one is which) that he doesn’t need. He promissed to send it to me. Once I get it, I’ll have to add a new extension to asterisk, I think _93. sounds good.

The End is Here

Linus switched to git and it looks quite promissing. I’ve been having fun with it and bash. I’m making something that looks a lot like bk but uses the git to do the actual work.

In other news…I have spend a lot of time working on an elevator simulator. It works, but it is a bit crappy. I fixed many bugs, but it still acts strangely. SVN is holding up quite well to my abuse (I use it for all of my projects that I started after BK went south earlier this year) but it is too centralized. Hopefully my little git frontend will be useful soon.

The End is Near!

Amazing…Linus just posted that he stopped using BitKeeper and is looking for alternatives. Two things that might turn out to be interesting:

  1. What will happen to BitMover if Linus decideds not to come back? Afterall, McVoy said that BitKeeper was created with the Linux kernel in mind. Now that this huge user population migrates away, it’s:

    1. Bad public relations, afterall why would the kernel hackers switch? It must be something serious.
    2. Less “advertisement,” BitKeeper got a lot of exposure from the kernel community. That might be over now.

  2. What will happen to the kernel now that it’s diff & patch again.

Monotone looks nice, but I didn’t look at it too closely - yet.

Create it like it's 1790

After reading a blog entry by someone I know, I watched this flash movie. It’s very simple, and you know what? If you like Open Source, and freedom in general, you want to watch it. It’s very enlightening.

Note: It might make you feel bad for not donating to EFF.

John: go where?
Jeffpc (Away): Just remember the First Rule of Acquisition, Hewmons.
John: Nice. Away message. http://www.memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Ferengi_Rules_of_Acquisition :D
John: I think you are a Cardassian, Jeff.
Jeffpc: And why would you say that?
John: Because Cardassians have an interesting name made of two key words.
John: Card and Asian.
John: idk cardassian sounds cool.
Jeffpc: From now on, address me as Gul Jeffat
John: interesting, why is that?
Jeffpc: because I said so, and if you do not, I’ll make sure my friends in the Obsidian Order hear about this.
John: idk on one hand it sounds like you’ve warmed up to my chicanery Jeff, and on the other, you sound like you are threatening to castrate me. how harsh.
Jeffpc: Computer, access all information regarding the Obsidian Order requiring security access level 1.
Jeffpc: *beep* *beep* http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Obsidian_Order
John: I thought you said you lost interest in D&D type stuff.
John: I see how it is, the moment you can load a weapon you hop onto the cavalry’s wagon.
John: tsk, tsk.
Jeffpc: This is enough! I will not stand here and be insulted!
Jeffpc: Computer, one to beam up.
Jeffpc: *swoosh*
